Easy DIY Dry Shampoo (For All Hair Colors)

dry shampooThe do-it-yourself craze is still alive and well.

So we must apply it to dry shampoo!

I also love knowing that in a pinch, I can make my own dry shampoo.

Or the dreaded day I run out and don’t have time to go to the store.

DIY is also perfect for those who love all-natural beauty products.

With a few natural ingredients, that you more than likely have laying around, you can whip up your own marvelous dry shampoo.

And don’t worry, we’ve got you covered if you have blonde, red, or dark hair.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Baking Soda
  • Corn Starch OR Arrowroot Powder
  • Cocoa Powder* (for darker hair)
  • Cinnamon* (for redheads)
  • Empty Bottle OR Small Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Makeup Brush

*NOTE:  Don’t add in cocoa powder OR cinnamon if you have light or blonde hair

Let’s get started!

STEP #1:  Add Baking Soda

Baking soda packs a powerful punch in the world of beauty.

It can make your pores appear smaller, whiten your teeth, and soaks up excess oil from your roots.

Simply add a spoonful of baking soda to your bowl or bottle.

If you’re using a bottle, such as a washed out spice bottle, make a cone funnel with a piece of paper.

This will make your life much easier, I promise!

STEP #2:  Add Corn Starch (or Arrowroot Powder)

Corn Starch and Arrowroot are also fantastic at getting rid of grease and oil.

Simply add a spoonful of either Corn Starch or Arrowroot to your baking soda.

If you haven’t noticed already, I’m not giving you precise measurements or calculations.

No need to fuss with those… I did say it was an easy DIY. : )

Just make sure you add about the same quantity as the baking soda and you’ll be perfect.

STEP #3:  Add Cocoa Powder or Cinnamon

This is where we add some color depending on your personal shade.

We’re going to use our trusty spoon measuring skills again.

If you have darker hair, add in a spoonful of cocoa powder.

If you have red hair, add in a spoonful of cinnamon.

If you have blonde or light hair, skip this step.

STEP #4:  Mix or Shake It All Together

We’re almost there!

If you used a bowl, mix all the ingredients together.

If you used a bottle, shake it all up!

STEP #5:  Brush Onto Your Scalp

This is where the makeup brush comes into play.

Once you’ve done all your shaking, apply the DIY dry shampoo onto your makeup brush.

Tap the excess powder off of the brush.

In downward strokes, apply the dry shampoo onto your scalp, hairline, and roots.

The makeup brush makes it super easy to apply without ending up with a huge mess.

Voilà!

You just made and applied your very own DIY dry shampoo and customized it to your specific hair color.

Extra bonus if you used a spice bottle.

Now you have a travel size dry shampoo you can take anywhere!
